Parks Conservancy staff, NPS staff, and park interns: Join us at a site loved by both visitors and locals alike - Ocean Beach! This will be the first ever Park Day at Ocean Beach and many hands are needed to prep the area for winter. Spend the morning working alongside colleagues and friends to protect the O’Shaughnessy Seawall, a cultural resource in the park, by giving it a fresh coat of paint (weather permitting). Other activities may include litter pickup, planting, vegetation clearing, and sand removal from pathways and drains.
Mark your calendars, check with your supervisor, and RSVP BELOW by October 25th. (Keep an eye out for the carpooling link on the form.)
Check out these “then and now” photos of Ocean Beach to get a sense of the unique history of this coastal area and get pumped for Park Day!

As the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Survey Results and Key Findings identified, we all have a part to play to move forward in this work. “DEI 101: Understanding Bias,” created and facilitated by the Avarna Group, provides training about basic ideas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The trainings will be offered October, November, and December at several locations, including Fort Mason, the Presidio, Alcatraz Island, and Marin. The first training is Oct.1, and the last is Dec. 12. You can check the schedule at https://training.parksconservancy.org/calendar. All staff and interns must complete the training by the end of the year. Please check in with your supervisor to confirm how to sign up.

To demonstrate our commitment to preparedness and a culture of safety, please join in by participating in the statewide “Great California ShakeOut” on Thursday, October 17, at 10:17 a.m.
This is a simulated event exercise to practice what to do in the event of an earthquake. Additional information will be coming from the Safety Committee on how to participate in this event, alternative options for participating, how best to prepare for an earthquake, and more.
What we do now, will determine what our lives will be like afterwards. With this in mind, we hope you’ll join us in participating in the Great California Shakeout. Mark your calendars!

TRAININGS
|
|
Thank you to all who attended our many CalSAC trainings this past summer. We’re in the final stretch now! While these are our final CalSAC trainings for now, Victor, our Professional Development Program Manager, will be working with the new PD Lead Team to continue planning more learning opportunities for the park in the future. Check out our three remaining CalSAC trainings in the updated list below:
**We highly recommend signing up for these opportunities as soon as possible. If a training has less than five people signed up within two weeks of the training happening, we may need to reschedule the training to ensure we are serving the optimal amount of people. This also helps us better prepare the necessary materials, hospitality, and accommodations for the training.
If you have any questions please contact Victor at vsmall@parksconservancy.org
