Organize your Grab and Go Emergency Kit
As part of our participation in California’s largest Earthquake drill, The Great ShakeOut, we are organizing our emergency supplies. It is also a good idea to organize a kit at home. Did you know Parks Conservancy sites and vehicles have grab and go emergency kits?
Please reach out to your supervisor and familiarize yourself with its location and contents. In fact, the Great ShakeOut drill is a good opportunity to pull out your kits and assess as a team using the emergency kit checklist to inventory emergency bags at your work sites and in vehicles. The Safety Committee will do a bulk order of emergency kit supplies on November 15, so be sure to fill out the Emergency Kit Replenishment Form as a team before then!
If you have any essential medications, it is also recommended that you prepare a personal kit with these items that can be kept at your workspace or on your person in the event of an emergency. Read more at 72hours.org for tips.

California continues to experience fast-moving wildfires that create dangerous situations for residents. With the added concern about the recent decision by Pacific Gas & Electric Company to cut power to many areas of the state, communities are worried about the safety and wellbeing of their members during this event.
An emergency situation can be a stressful experience for anyone involved. Knowing how to respond to a wildfire outbreak and what kind of difficulties you and your loved ones may face during the event can help you make the decisions that will keep everyone safe from harm. The resources in the link below will connect you to the information you can use to gather supplies, plot evacuation routes, and prepare your loved ones for the emotional hardships emergencies can create.

EVENTS
|
|
Parks Conservancy staff, NPS staff, and park interns: Join us at a site loved by both visitors and locals alike - Ocean Beach! This will be the first ever Park Day at Ocean Beach and many hands are needed to prep the area for winter. Spend the morning working alongside colleagues and friends to protect the O’Shaughnessy Seawall, a cultural resource in the park, by giving it a fresh coat of paint (weather permitting). Other activities may include litter pickup, planting, vegetation clearing, and sand removal from pathways and drains.
Mark your calendars, check with your supervisor, and RSVP below by October 29th. (Keep an eye out for the carpooling link on the form.) Check out these “then and now” photos of Ocean Beach to get a sense of the unique history of this coastal area and get pumped for Park Day!

TRAININGS
|
|
As the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Survey Results and Key Findings identified, we all have a part to play to move forward in this work. “DEI 101: Understanding Bias,” created and facilitated by the Avarna Group, provides training about basic ideas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The trainings will be offered October, November, and December at several locations, including Fort Mason, the Presidio, Alcatraz Island, and Marin.
The first training is Oct.1, and the last is Dec. 12. You can check the schedule at https://training.parksconservancy.org/calendar.
All staff and interns must complete the training by the end of the year. Please check in with your supervisor to confirm how to sign up.
Have questions? Check out our DEI 101 FAQs (see attached) or contact dei@parksconservancy.org
