Set Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks!
Daylight Saving is a good time to get in the habit of changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors at home. Fire safety officials recommend changing those batteries at least once a year and replacing the detectors every 10 years, even if hard-wired. Also, an extra hour is a good time to check your stockpile of food, water, batteries, personal supplies and key documents. If you don't want to buy at once, team up with friends for bulk buys or do just one thing a month. Develop your family and friends communication plan, and know how you will get in touch with one another during an emergency.

Organize your Grab and Go Emergency Kit
As part of our participation in The Great ShakeOut earthquake drill, we are organizing our emergency supplies. Did you know Conservancy sites and vehicles have grab-and-go emergency kits? Reach out to your supervisor and familiarize yourself with its location and contents. The Great ShakeOut drill is a good opportunity to assess kits as a team using the emergency kit checklist to inventory emergency bags at your work sites and in vehicles. The Safety Committee will do a bulk order of emergency kit supplies on November 15, so be sure to fill out the Emergency Kit Replenishment Form as a team before then!
If you have any essential medications, it is also recommended that you prepare a personal kit with these items that can be kept at your workspace or on your person in the event of an emergency. Read more at 72hours.org for tips.

TRAININGS
|
|
As the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Survey Results and Key Findings identified, we all have a part to play to move forward in this work. “DEI 101: Understanding Bias,” created and facilitated by the Avarna Group, provides training about basic ideas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The trainings will be offered in November and December at several locations, including Fort Mason, the Presidio, Alcatraz Island, and Marin. The first training is Oct.1, and the last is Dec. 12. You can check the schedule. All staff and interns must complete the training by the end of the year. Please check in with your supervisor to confirm how to sign up.
Have questions? Check out our DEI 101 FAQs (see attached) or contact dei@parksconservancy.org
