Peer Ambassadors from various departments have volunteered to make themselves available to staff impacted by layoffs. We are here to provide a listening ear, offer suggestions, help navigate resources, and support our colleagues on a 1:1 basis. Lisette Arellano and Sara Leon Guerrero from the Community Science team hosted a Virtual Bioblitz for MLK Day of Service on January 18, 2021. There were over 100 people in attendance, which was a huge success.
|

The Volunteer Team hosted a virtual edition of our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on January 13, 2021. The theme of the event was "community and connection." With over 115 participants, we shared laughs, memories, and played park trivia. Volunteers were mailed handmade cards with GGNRA logo displayed masks, and submissions by all were organized to create a volunteer recipe booklet.

Each week during the month of February, our partners at Outdoor Afro are highlighting "Black historical figures in the outdoors, historic places for recreation, and recent achievements by Black individuals related to the outdoors" using the hashtag #BlackHistoryOutdoors.

Of five new Bay Area trails that 7x7 featured recently, two are in our parklands: Quartermaster Reach and Lands End (by way of the Crosstown Trail). Time to lace up your hiking boots!

Join our partners at the San Francisco Public Library and Rangers Alanna and Hector to uncover stories of resilience in the GGNRA throughout time, from the pools of Sutro Baths to the promenades of the Presidio.

The DEI Committee will be hosting a 1-hour special event to learn about Lunar New Year and what this holiday means to the people from communities who typically celebrate it. You’re invited to come and learn about different aspects of the holiday including language, food, and traditions.

Weds., 2/24 from 3-5 PM: Join members of the DEI Committee for a film screening followed by a guided conversation of "Gather," a film that offers, “an intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty, while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide.” Visit the film's website to learn more

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is going digital this year and will be a year-long event of exciting films and showings! The Banff Centre and REI have designated the Parks Conservancy as one of the local beneficiaries.
