On November 21st, volunteers banded their first adult Ferruginous Hawk in the GGRO’s 34 year history. The Ferruginous Hawk, the largest and most beauteous buteo in N. America, primarily feeds on small mammals.

The NPS has announced that all vehicles and shuttle passengers will need to use the new reservation system at Muir Woods starting Jan. 16, 2018. Visitors arriving by commercial carrier, bicycle, or on foot will not be required to have reservations. Traffic Advisory: Lane Closures on Marina Blvd Begin December 4
Beginning Mon., Dec. 4, for approximately two weeks, there will be a lane closure along Marina Boulevard for crews to install a drainage system at the Palace of Fine Arts parking lot. Work is scheduled for Monday - Friday from 7 am – 3:30 pm, in the westbound direction and 9 am – 7 pm in the eastbound direction. Work will be completed in five stages, affecting one lane at a time.

Holiday shopping time is here! Columbia Sportswear Company has once again invited Conservancy employees to shop at their Employee Store! The employee store has brands like Columbia Sportswear, SOREL, Mountain Hardwear, and prAna at 40-60% below retail pricing. This invitation is valid until Dec. 10. Instructions for store access can be found at the link below. Note: Invitations are non-transferable, but staff may bring up to 4 additional guests. Employee pricing is only available in the Employee Store, but kiosks are available on the sales floor to order items online at the employee pricing.

December 13: NPS Holiday Party
11:30 am - 1:30 pm, Fort Mason General's Residence. The NPS has invited Conservancy staff to their "Community, Camaraderie, and Comfort" holiday party. Festivities will include a GOGA's Got Talent show, baking competition, and a silent auction to support UNICEF Puerto Rico and the Redwood Credit Union fund for North Bay fire victims. There will also be a Toys for Tots and food drive.

December 13: Winter of Love Holiday Party!
5 - 8 pm, Fort Mason General's Residence. Partake of dinner, drinks, groovy music, and karaoke at the Conservancy's Winter of Love Holiday Party! Dressing to the theme is highly encouraged! Show off your far-out, hippie threads and your brownie recipe in the baking contest, visit the Wellness Committee's DIY holiday gift table, and bring a donation for the Toys for Tots drive. 9:30 am - 1:30 pm, Temescal Beach House. Join the Bay Area Climate Literacy Impact Collaborative (BayCLIC) in the next installment of our Local Climate Science & Education Series. Educators and scientists are invited to come learn about current research on extreme climate and weather events in the region like droughts, heatwaves, and flooding. We’ll also practice climate messaging techniques so you can be comfortable when talking with audiences of all ages. RSVP at the BayCLIC event page below.

12:30 - 2 pm, Crissy Field Center. Join the Nature Journal Club for a 1.5 hour workshop and learn how to mix watercolors to get the colors you want...and also learn that exact color matching is not as big a deal as most people think it is!

1 - 3 pm, 1216 Ralston. Michael Chassé (Natural Resources Manager for the Park) will share the story of how SF's rare, endemic manzanitas were once thought to be lost forever, only to be rediscovered and brought back from the brink of extinction. Come learn about the current efforts by park staff are restoring populations of these species to the local landscape.
