In September, the Bay Area Climate Literacy Impact Collaborative (BayCLIC), with the support of the Institute at the Golden Gate, held the first Local Climate Science & Education workshop, Deep Dive into Ocean Acidification. The event covered subjects like how scientists are studying local impacts of ocean acidification and how we can include solutions in our climate messaging. The holidays are supposed to be a time of warmth, joy and excitement. Still, the anxiety of having too much to do in too little time, the pressure of unrealistic expectations, and the tendency to overeat and overspend can easily overshadow holiday happiness. December 13: NPS Holiday Party
11:30 am - 1:30 pm, Fort Mason General's Residence. The NPS has invited Conservancy staff to their "Community, Camaraderie, and Comfort" holiday party. Festivities will include a GOGA's Got Talent show, baking competition, and a silent auction to support UNICEF Puerto Rico and the Redwood Credit Union fund for North Bay fire victims. There will also be a Toys for Tots and food drive.

December 13: Winter of Love Holiday Party!
5 - 8 pm, Fort Mason General's Residence. Partake of dinner, drinks, groovy music and karaoke at the Conservancy's Winter of Love Holiday Party! Dressing to the theme is highly encouraged! Show off your far-out threads and your brownie recipe in the baking contest, visit the Wellness Committee's DIY holiday gift table, and bring a toy for the Toys for Tots drive. 10 - 11 am, 201 Fort Mason. NPS Fire Marshals will teach the basics of how to use a fire extinguisher, the different types of fire extinguishers, the types of fires they are designed to put out, and fire safety tips for your home and office. You'll also get to practice putting out a fire! This training is recommended for all staff at all levels. We will meet in front of 201 Fort Mason and move to the parking lot to practice putting out fires.

1 - 3 pm, 1216 Ralston. Michael Chassé (Natural Resources Manager for the Park) will share the story of how San Francisco's rare endemic manzanitas were once thought to be lost forever, only to be rediscovered and brought back from the brink of extinction. Come learn about how the current efforts by park staff are restoring manzanita populations to the San Francisco landscape.

Noon PST. Emotions are a healthy part of the human experience. Acknowledging emotions and understanding your personal stress style is the first step in beginning to control them. In this session, we will discuss a selection of customary stressors as well as techniques for exercising control over them. Now might be a particularly salient time to take this training, with holiday season stressors of busy schedules, family gatherings, and financial pressures.
