Fri., June 29 - Sun., July 15, traffic through the Baker-Barry Tunnel in the Marin Headlands will only be one-way in the west-bound direction. Conzelman Road (to exit, as well as access view areas) will convert from two-way travel to one-way travel in the eastbound direction between McCollough Road and Alexander Avenue. This new traffic pattern will reduce congestion, improve safety, add parking, and enhance the visitor experience in the Marin Headlands.

It's that time of year again! Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy employees and volunteers are invited to Columbia Sportswear Company's Employee Store. Parks Conservancy staff will have access to current season merchandise at employee pricing and can extend the invite to up to four guest. Wednesdays, 1:00 pm. Officer's Club, Presidio. Learn about the Presidio’s archaeological process and excavations during this one-hour tour. See standing Spanish adobe in the Presidio Officers’ Club before moving to the state-of-the-art lab and collections facility where the Presidio’s artifacts are cleaned, catalogued, studied, and curated. Stay after for Open Lab Hours to see the behind-the-scenes workings of an archaeology lab and talk to the archaeologists while they work.This is a drop-in program that all are welcome to attend.

6 - 8:30 pm. Crissy Field. Let's have a paw-ty in the parks with a dog-friendly "Tail Mixer!" Treat your best friend (your dog) to a happy hour event in your national park with an activity led by SF SPCA, special treats, DIY doggie Toy station, a winner for the best BARK Ranger outfit, and for our human friends, complimentary bites from Whole Foods, trail mix bar by REI, and cold brews from local brewing establishments. Please note: one dog per adult, and must be on leash at the event. 21+ only event w/ID.

12:30 - 2 pm. Bldg 989, Presidio. John Muir Laws how to quickly sketch birds in the field. Learn how to draw better birds with fewer lines via his refined system that will get basic bird shapes with less trouble. Bring a sketchbook and your favorite drawing materials. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

11:30 am - 12:20 pm. Bldg 102, Upper Fort Mason. Incidents of fraud are on the rise, and scammers’ tactics are becoming more complex. That’s why it’s important to educate yourself about fraud. And while no one is immune, there are steps you can take to Outsmart the Scammers. 9:30 am -12:30 pm. Sausalito. At this training, Park Academy leaders will present a summary of research on how sea level rise and changes in fire regime, temperature, and precipitation may impact our protected lands and how we manage them. Ideal audience: This training is designed for staff and interns who work with the public on stewardship, restoration, and science, and may also be of interest to others who would like an overview of climate change impacts to parks.

8:20 - 11 am. Alcatraz. Waterbird docent, Corny Foster, will lead the group on a bird walk around the island to discuss the history of the island, how these birds got to the island after the prison closed, their breeding ecology, threats to the populations, and what the park is doing (and what you can do!) to help protect the birds. Attendees of the tour will take the 8:20 am (free) staff boat to Alcatraz where the tour will start. The tour will be about two hours.

10:30 am - noon. This hour and a half training will provide you with practical information and guidance on how to respond if you find yourself in an active shooting situation. As part of the training, a retired police officer will discuss police protocols. The training material is taught in a calm & sensitive manner. Topics include tips on preventive measures and caring for clients and colleagues during the incident. Training/location details will be sent after registration. Please sign up here.

Robert Lieber, Vice President of Interpretive Sales, is pleased to announce a new look for the Ocean Beach park image. Inspired by the stunning 3.5-mile stretch along our Pacific coastline that defines San Francisco’s westernmost border, the new image of Ocean Beach was designed by Michael Schwab with assistance from Conservancy designer Carol Klammer. The first product with this new design, due later this summer, will be a hand-drawn silk-screened print. Other products will follow this fall. Click the link to view the new Ocean Beach.
